Gathered on August 7, 1978 for a Hall of Fame Classic exhibition, (13) sports icons saw fit to sign this Cooperstown souvenir sphere. The soiled orb bears a “Doubleday Batting Range” stamping and shows apparent diamond use. The ballpoint autographs average (“7-8”) strength. As the Mets and Tigers played to a 4-4 rain-shortened tie that day, the ball was signed by: Sweet Spot: “1978” notation; North Panel: Feller, Spahn, Rozelle (former NFL Commissioner) and Bruhert; South Panel: Gehringer, Seaman and Whitaker; West Panel: A. Lopez, Youngblood and R. Anderson; East Panel: Cool Papa Bell, Conlan and Swan. Full photo LOA from JSA.
Note: Kim Seaman and Rick Anderson played for the New York Mets’ Class AA Jackson affiliate in 1978 and were on hand for that day’s festivities.
