Walt Disney’s 17th animated feature film, ”One Hundred and One Dalmatians” opened in 1961 and followed in the successful footsteps as other classic Disney releases such as “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” “Pinocchio,” “Fantasia” and “Cinderella”. The offered lot presents two original items from this cartoon classic: 1.) 1961 22 x 28” US Half Sheet movie poster, professionally ”Linen Backed” and framed to the dimensions of 23-1/4 x 29”. Housed in a red metal frame (minor dings) the piece shows minor creases located towards the outer perimeter as well as minor surface scratches and toning common to its previous display. While there are two small blemishes located on the bottom border, the vibrant yellow, red and blue contrasting tones to the poster present boldly and reduce the focus of any negative aspects of this scarce piece.
Also included: 2.)1985 Advance 27 x 41” US 1 Sheet Re-Release movie poster. Advertising its third release of the film in theaters, this Disney piece features minor toning along the fold lines as well as a tape repair to the bottom centerfold, common to its previous display. With Disney memorabilia remaining highly collectible over the years, the pair offers a unique opportunity to the advanced collector.
Note:The 1961 half sheet is Linen Backed and Framed, the 1985 1 Sheet is stored in its original folds and delivered as such.
Linen Backing is an archival process that restores and preserves posters by professionally mounting them onto canvas. This process (an expensive and time consuming one) stabilizes and protects the poster, drastically improving its appearance by decreasing fold lines and other minor defects, as well as increasing the value of a poster. Thusly posters that have already gone through the “Linen Backing” process receive a higher premium.
