Based on the novel by Lee Mortimer and Jack Lait with the same name, ”New York: Confidential” is a tantalizing depiction of mid-1950s organized crime. While Lait & Mortimer penned several other “crime novels,” 1955 saw their only work transformed onto the big screen. This offered relic is an original 1955 27x41 US 1 sheet movie poster that has been neatly stored in its original folds and is ready for display. Showing minimal fold lines and toning common to its era, the piece is affected by a slight tear at the top fold as well as pinholes from previous theater exhibition. The reverse displays original stamping (N.Y. Confidential, 1 SH., 55 / 115) from the distributor as well as minor tape residue. Starring the vivacious Anne Bancroft as Kathy Lupo, Broderick Crawford and Richard Conte turned in stellar performances as “Gentleman Gangsters,” captivating an American culture now fully aware of organized crime and fascinated by “crime drama” in its headlines and on the silver screen.
